With only one slot to be contested, expect high-octane, no-holds-barred matches as action in the inaugural National Basketball Championship (NBC) Inter-High tournament blast off on Friday (Oct.13) with four knockout games at the Gov. Bren Guiao Sports Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
The matchups which were officially arranged during the media presentation last October 8 at the Don Bosco Academy auditorium in Mabalacat, draw St. Augustine's Institute of Pampanga against Don Bosco Academy for the first win-or-go-home duel at 2:00 p.m.
St. Vincent Academy of Apalit plays against Sta. Cruz Academy Lubao in the second game at 3:30 p.m.; followed by the duel of Pampanga Colleges and Holy Angel’s University at 5:00 p.m. before favorite Guagua National Colleges, Inc. faces St. Mary’s Academy in the nightcap at 6:00 p.m, in the tournaments organized by Jams Sports under the supervision of Jamsap Entertainment Corporation headed by Chief Executive Officer Jojo Flores.
“Masuwerte kami at hindi naming agad nakalaro ang Guagua National Colleges. Para po sa akin, based na rin sa experience nila sa pagsali sa mga school tournaments, talagang malakas po at favorite sila dito,” said St. Augustine’s head coach Allan Trinidad.
Basketball icon and PBA star Arwind Santos is the tournament Commissioner.
The tournament format calls for eight participating schools to play in the knockout phase to determine the Pampanga champion and to represent the province in the North and Luzon championships.
The same format will be used in the succeeding qualifying round in the National Capital Region (NCR) skated Oct.18-19, followed by Bulacan (Oct. 20-22), Rizal (Oct. 23-25), Cavite (Oct. 26-28), Laguna (Nov. 3-5), Nueva Ecija (Nov. 6-8), Isabella (Nov. 9-11), Cagayan (Nov. 12-14), Ilocos (Nov. 15-17), Pangasinan (Nov. 18-20), Batangas (Nov. 21-23), Quezon (Nov. 24-26), Camarines Norte (Nov. 27-29), Camarines Sur (Nov. 30 to Dec. 1-2), Albay (Dec. 3-5).
The league goes to Visayas and Mindanao for separate knockout eliminations going to the National Finals where the champion will receive a whopping P1 million prized and scholarship grants for deserving student participants.
More than anything else, NBCIH will be a platform for 14- to 19-year-olds to showcase their basketball skills and potential in front of coaches and scouts which could pave the way for athletic scholarship offers from the many colleges and universities nationwide which are always on the lookout for fresh, young, tall, and promising talent.
“We are hoping the NBCIH can help young athletes to fulfill or jumpstart their dreams of earning college scholarships while pursuing their passion for the game,” stressed Flores.
Games will be shown live at Jamsap TV via app which can be downloaded on Android gadgets and very soon on IoS devices. It also streamed on Jams Sports' official Facebook page.
