Jam Sports recently announced the appointment of multi-dimension professional player Arwind Santos as Commissioner of the soon-to-be-launched National Basketball Championship (NBC).

The North and South Luzon elimination is set to open shops on October 13 at the Gov. Bren Guiao Sports Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Arguably one of the country's most talented forwards ever to play in both amateur and professional leagues, Santos' image and success in basketball are expected to draw inspiration to young participants in the league which aims to give the Filipino youth a platform to hone their skills.

Dubbed 'Spider-man' for his tough defensive stance, Santos played 16-season in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) with Northport as his last stop after long-time home team San Miguel Beer traded him for Vic Manuel in 2021.

He won the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2013 and was named All-Star member 13 times. At age 40 in 2021, he joined the rank of 'Tapal King' after registering 900 blocks. At that time, he was the only active player on the list.

From PBA where he raised a total of nine championships (all with SMB), two PBA Finals MVPs, and two Best Players of the Conference in a career that spanned 16 seasons, Santos gets his act in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as he rejoined his friend and 'Godfather' Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda as the Giant Lanterns tries to sustain the momentum and boost their bid for the title.

Santos was born in Manila but grew up in Lubao, Pampanga. He played for Lubao Institute and won the West Central Zone Championship. He was part of the RQP (Recruitment and Quality Assurance Program) Team.

At the Far Eastern University (FEU) in his rookie season in 2002, Santos won Rookie of the Year honors and led the Tamaraws to UAAP championships three-peat (2003-2005) where he was also named Most Valuable Player thrice.

Arwind Santos made his PBL debut in 2003 for Viva Mineral Water, winning the Unity Cup title and being named PBL MVP. He led Magnolia Ice Cream to the PBL Heroes Cup title in 2006 and was selected second overall in the 2006 PBA draft. He led San Miguel to 11-3 in the 2010-11 Philippine Cup and won two Best Player of the Conference awards.

With all the achievements and credentials, Jams Sports takes pride in collaborating best with one of the country’s top professional players to encourage, guide, and support future basketball stars. The so-called "Spider-Man" of PBA courts is taking NBC to new heights while emphasizing morals, skill improvement, and community harmony to ensure it continues to be an essential venue for rising basketball players.

By appointing Mr. Arwind Santos as commissioner, the National Basketball Championship Inter-High takes a bold stride toward a bright future. As an iconic figure and visionary leader, he is poised to inspire, innovate, and steer the league toward continued success, thereby leaving an indelible mark on the world of basketball.
